TATTOO PREPARATION AFTERCARE

PREPARING FOR TREATMENT

  • Arrange your anesthetic (see below)
  • Avoid consuming alcohol within 24 hours prior to treatment.
  • Some medications may cause adverse effects. Please get in touch for further advice regarding any medication you are taking. Doctor approval may be required in some medical circumstances.
  • If you take supplements known to thin the blood, such as fish oil, cease taking 1 week prior to treatment.
  • If you are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive please get in touch for further advice.
  • If the area you would like treated has existing cosmetic tattoos, please get in touch or send pics prior to booking an appointment.
  • More information about contraindications and precautions is available on our website under 'Treatment Considerations'.
  • FAMILY PLANNING: We’re unable to tattoo during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, please take the 6-8 week touch-up into consideration. The 6-8 week touch-up is valid for up to 12 weeks only, and cannot be extended or exchanged for a credit.
  • Please ensure you read the relevant “Preparation Aftercare” information, for the service you are booked in for, located at the bottom of this page.

FOR 2 WEEKS POST-TREATMENT

  • EXERCISE: Avoid cardio workouts and excessive sweating until the healing area starts to scab up (2-5 days). Once scabbing starts, you may resume normal exercising, however, be cautious of exposing the area to sweat.
  • Do not touch the healing area with fingers.
  • Do not expose or submerge the area in chlorinated pools or salt water.
  • Avoid saturating the area in water.
  • Avoid hot, steamy showers, steam rooms and saunas until healed.
  • Avoid spray tanning the area until healed.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol for 48 hours post-treatment.
  • Protect the area from sun exposure and ensure your skin is in good health for 2-weeks prior to treatment.
  • Do not pick the flaking skin or scabs.
  • Ensure your touch up is booked for 6-8 weeks post treatment.
  • Certain chemicals in cleansers and moisturisers will accelerate fading and may discolour the tattoo. Avoid applying these products to any tattooed areas unless directed to do so.
  • Expected healing time is 5-9 days.

1 WEEK AFTER TREATMENT

Where did the colour go?

During the healing process, the tattooed area will become intensely dark and minor scabbing will develop as new collagen rich skin forms underneath. This new skin temporarily makes the pigment appear faded and dull. Protect and nourish this new skin and the colour will return within a few weeks.

ANAESTHETIC

We recommend ordering the below medical grade Anaesthetic, to ensure you’ll be totally comfortable throughout the entire treatment. With this, you’ll only feel a minor vibration at the area.

We work strictly within legal compliance, so are unable to supply you with medical grade pharmaceuticals however, we’ve made it super easy for you to arrange:

  1. Keperra Compounding Pharmacy by clicking this link
  2. Password is: kcp2018
  3. Product will be sent and safely be stored at our Studio until your appointment.
  4. Cost will be $34.90 + $10.00 postage.

Please avoid purchasing numbing products from a local pharmacy. Their products are generally half the strength of what we recommend.

Do not order more for your touch-up, this formulation provides enough product for both treatments

 Preparation

  • You may like to get your brows waxed/tidied 5 or more days prior to treatment.
  • Do not tint prior to treatment, we aim to colour match according to your natural tones.
  • Gently exfoliate 1-week prior to treatment and ensure the skin is well nourished.
  • Repeat the above step every second night until the day of treatment.
  • Avoid using Brow growth serums at least 30 days prior to treatment.
  • You will be advised to avoid cleansers near the area during healing, we recommend washing your hair prior to your appointment.
  • Do come in with an open mind about technique options. After a thorough consultation, your Artist will recommend the most suitable option to achieve your brow goals.

Aftercare

  • Gently clean the area with a damp cotton tip and gentle cleanser, prior to applying Aftercare product.
  • Dab the area with a clean tissue or cotton round, if necessary, to ensure the area is dry.
  • Using another clean cotton tip, apply a very thin layer of Aftercare product to the area and allow to dry.
  • Remove any excess product with the other end of your cotton tip.
  • Repeat this process 1-2 times daily, or as directed.
  • Do this 10 minutes before showering rather than after, so that the product can assist with protecting your healing Brows from water and will place a 'Splash Proof' barrier over the area.
  • Do not saturate the area with water during healing, until the final scabs naturally fall off (1-2 weeks).
  • Avoid your normal cleansers on or near the area during healing, once healed be cautious of exposing the area to intensive fading treatments such as; chemical peels, microneedling, retinols, and cosmeceutical grade products.
  • Once healed, minor patchiness in colour may be present. This is normal and will be adjusted accordingly at the touch-up. I recommend wearing brow products to blend these areas until then.
  • Return for a touch-up at 6-8 weeks.

  • If you wear contact lenses ensure they are removed and bring your glasses if needed.
  • Avoid eye makeup (if possible) at the time of your appointment.
  • If you have any moles on the lash line, recent infections, concerns or irregular skin issues please reach out directly, or DM a close-up pic if you’re unsure.

  • Apply a cold compress or ice to the area immediately after treatment, for just a few minutes, and repeat every few hours that day.

  • Please remember nipple areola tattooing is not a one off treatment and you may require several visits to achieve the desired outcome from your cosmetic medical tattooing procedure.
  • At the end of your procedure a hydro colloidal moist wound healing patch is applied to the newly tattooed area and for optimum results the patch must be left on for 7 days following your procedure.
  • There is no after pain following your tattoo procedure however there will be a slight swelling and redness that will remain for the next few days post procedure.
  • Immediately after and for the next 48 hours the treated area may weep a clear healing fluid. This is normal and is your body’s healing response to a wound. The patches are applied for your convenience and to provide the most appropriate healing conditions for your skin.
  • Immediately following your procedure and for the first 7 days:

No full body bathing, swimming, spas, saunas, intense physical activity, nothing

that is going to make you sweat and no direct running water onto the newly

tattooed area as this could be detrimental to the bonding process that must take

place for the pigment to become stabilised in the dermis.

REMOVING THE PATCHES

  • To remove the patch start by peeling one corner of the patch and as you pull the patch wipe the rea with the remove wipes to dissolve any adhesive and make removal easier.
  • Once you have removed the patch the tattooed nipple areola area may be a little crusty, DO NOT rub or pick any of the areas.
  • Immediately apply a thin smear of silicone cream directly to the tattooed area.
  • Continue to apply a thin smear of silicone cream twice daily ie; morning and night for 5 days after removing the patches.
  • As your skin heals it may become flaky or scaly, do not pick or scratch, let the scales if they do appear to fall off naturally.
  • Colours will appear brighter and more sharply defined immediately following the procedure, colours will lighten and soften over the next seven days. The new tattoo will appear 40% darker for the first ten days. Any adjustment to colour and shape will be made on your second visit.
  • Nipple areola tattooing is a specialised technique and your procedure may take several treatments to get the desired result so please be patient as this process cannot be hurried.

COMPLICATIONS

  • Complications following tattooing are uncommon provided you strictly follow the aftercare healing instructions. Healing problems or signs of infection you must visit your GP.

LONG TERM CARE

  • Long term exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and colour change. Cover the tattoo with Vaseline when swimming in salt or chlorinated water to avoid bleaching effect. Some Vitamin A and C cause abnormal colour changes and unusual fading.
  • Medical Resonance Imaging – MRI can cause tingling and discomfort in the tattoo. In the future if you need a MRI, ensure you tell your doctor and MRI technician that you have a tattoo.
